The Flugwerft Schleissheim branch of the Deutsches Museum opened in 1992 on the site of Germany’s oldest airfield. The historic airfield and the new exhibition hall present aspects of the technology and the history of air and space travel on an area of 7800 sq m. Alongside an exhibition on the history of the flying centre and the Schleissheim airfield, around 60 aircraft and helicopters are on display, together with numerous hang-gliders, flight simulators and a view into a restoration workshop.
